Stephen Simantiras is an award-winning industrial designer and creative leader who is passionate about transforming ideas into impactful products and experiences. With over 17 years in the design industry, he has focused on blending creativity, strategy and empathy to deliver human-centered design solutions.
As current Head of Creative at Canfield Scientific, Inc., Stephen leads the Industrial Design and UIUX initiative to further accelerate the brand grow a team of a talented designers. He focuses on harmonizing form, function, and user experience to build a stronger brand language and fuel creative innovation.
Previously, he spent more than a decade at HS Design Inc. (Ensera Design), growing from Industrial Designer to Director of Design. During that time, he led multidisciplinary teams through every stage of development, from research and concepting to prototyping and production. Through this he collaborating closely with clients and his team of designers to bring novel ideas to life. Stephen has designed and developed products for a wide range of industries, including consumer goods, consumer medical devices, and first kind healthcare solutions.
Additionally, he has served over a decade as an adjunct professor of design at Kean University. Here he taught industrial design principals, model making, CAD, rendering, and animation.

Bio Brian is a design leader that believes great design is multi-sensory and that when engaging with a product, people should feel the values of those who made it. Starting at Ensera Design as an entry-level designer and growing into the Director of Industrial Design role, Brian has contributed to a wide volume of their work over the last decade. This spans experience with leading healthcare companies to innovative start-ups in the diagnostics, surgical, drug delivery, and consumer health categories. As director, he works to ensure medical design is as intuitive and personal as it is lifesaving.
Director of Human Factors Engineering Ensera Design
Kate Cox is the Director of Human Factors Engineering at Ensera Design, based in Morristown, NJ, USA. Kate has been with the company since 2012 and during this time, she has quickly become a key player of the Human Factors team, specializing in applying human factors to the design and development of innovative medical devices for start-up and Fortune 500 companies.
Kate is experienced in all aspects of the product development process, beginning with initial contextual inquiry research to defining requirements, analyzing risk, conducting formative and HF Validation usability testing. She has worked on numerous devices over the years, from surgical devices, drug-device combination products, consumer medical products, and laboratory devices. Kate enjoys immersing into the product’s use environments to understand current behaviors and workflows in order to uncover unmet needs and influence the design direction.
Kate graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering. Kate is also a member of the AAMI Human Factors Engineering committee, which provides input into international usability standards for medical devices such as HE75 and IEC 62366.

Bio With a background in industrial design, Matt began his design career creating thoughtful, human-centered products before transitioning into the education space. He now serves as the STEAM Coordinator at Princeton Day School, where he bridges industry and education, fostering a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment in which students approach challenges with curiosity, resilience, and creativity. By integrating real-world applications and industry insights, Matt prepares students for future careers in design, engineering, and innovation, emphasizing both problem-solving and empathetic, user-focused thinking. His work spans mentoring student projects, developing hands-on curricula, and connecting classroom learning with emerging technologies and industry trends. Matt is excited to bring this lens to the 2026 Medical & Healthcare Jury, offering a perspective that values human-centered solutions, practical impact, and the potential to transform lives through good design.
Sr. Industrial Designer Ensera Design
Shane is a Sr. Industrial Designer at Ensera Design. He focuses on making products easy to use and pleasing to the eye. Believing that good medical design should benefit both the care provider and the patient, Shane likes to approach each project by learning the user’s needs with empathy, followed by wide exploration of concepts and physical prototyping. Prior to entering the medical design field, Shane worked at a Taiwanese company focused on consumer electronics design. He graduated from Pratt Institute with a Master’s degree in Industrial Design. His work has been featured in magazines such as Robb Report, Architizer Journal, and Yanko Design.
