Tights packaging
In Afghanistan, women’s rights are hidden behind the veil. They are forced to cover themselves from head to toe, and forbidden to work, be educated and leave the house without a male escort. Wearing tights are matter of choice for you, but wearing veil is obligation for them. This package provokes your action to unveil women’s hijab as the tights are untangled.
JURY COMMENTS
Tights packaging
1. The Nutshell: In plain language, tell us what your project is, what it does, and what it’s comprised of.
“Unveil the women’s right.”
In Afghanistan, women’s rights are hidden behind the veil. They are forced to cover themselves from head to toe, and forbidden to work, be educated, and leave the house without a male escort. Women are brutally beaten and killed for violating the decrees. Wearing tights are matter of choice for you, but wearing veil is obligation for them. This package provokes your action to unveil women's hijab as you untangle the tights.
2. The Brief: Summarize the problem you set out to solve. What was the context for the project, and what was the challenge posed to you?I chose social issue i wanted to speak out first, and then tried to match appropriate product for the issue. It was a big challenge for me to make a right pair of social issue and content. The problem i had to solve was making package, not only appealing as a product itself but also speaking social message that provokes people's action at the same time.3. The Intent: What point of view did you bring to the project, and were there additional criteria that you added to the brief?People read and watch many social issues around the world through newspaper, internet and TV. However, for them, it's just irrelevant events they might glance briefly and forget. I tried to draw people's attention about social issues, and arouse their actual action to communicate these issues.4. The Process: Describe the rigor that informed your project. (Research, ethnography, subject matter experts, materials exploration, technology, iteration, testing, etc., as applicable.) What stakeholder interests did you consider? (Audience, business, organization, labor, manufacturing, distribution, etc., as applicable)I got inspired by a book " Design for the other 90%" by Cynthia E. Smith. I thought I might be a good messenger connecting people with social issues through my design. I researched various social , cultural and environmental problems, and then reflect it on my package design. My audience will be every consumer who buy tights, and I want them to feel they can influence on the social issues.5. The Value: How does your project earn its keep in the world? What is its value? What is its impact? (Social, educational, economic, paradigm-shifting, sustainable, environmental, cultural, gladdening, etc.)Researching many social issues, I realized there are many articles or advertising about social issues around the world. I wanted my design to communicate with people in their daily life, and influence on the issues practically. My project awaken people to social issues about women's right . As people buy and wear tights, they can remind of the issue and put thought into action.
