The Desert Storm light fixture is inspired by sand.
This project contain 2 kinds of lamps : standing lamp and table lamp.
The lamp base and pole are made out of metal and the lampshades made out out of desert sand.
The material and the technology is a development of my studio.
The LED bulbs spreads a soft light, which accentuates the amorphous shapes on the lamp’s “stormy” surface.

In this project i wanted to create lampshades made out of desert sand.
In order to get the effect i wanted i had to developed a way to create a thin, yet sturdy, material
that could support the end result.
The challenge was to create this thin walls, give the material it’s strength and make sure that the light emerging from the shades will be soft an gentle.

The environment : the way in which the design remains loyal to its material, the energy saving LED bulbs and the use of on- hand substance, derive from my environmental sensitivity.

The sand is mixed with glue, poured into a mold and is kept to dry until hardening into its final shape.
Despite its apparent fragility, the lamp shade is sturdy.
Sand is the main source of inspiration for the Desert Strom light fixture : the lamp-shade’s shape brings to mind primitive desert mud-huts, while the fixture’s overall figure resembles that of plants that blossom in the Mediterranean seashore.

2. The Spiritual aspect : its sand-molded lamp shades play on the tension between the material’s wild nature – that of sand storms and vast deserts– and the delicacy of the molded end design. Once the LED lamp is lit, it spreads a soft light, which accentuates the amorphous shapes on the lamp’s surface, reminding us of the sand’s original untamed character.
