3M™ Infinite Innovation
Held at the renowned Triennale di Milano during the 2011 Milan week of design, 3M “Infinite
Innovation” is a masterfully staged installation entirely dedicated to a series of advanced,
futuristic and sustainable 3M technologies for Ambient Culture in architecture and design,
an exploration trip through the world of surface finishing solutions and artificial and natural
lighting, allowing for the integration of light as part of the architectural and design project as
so‐called ambience solutions.
The challenge was to show in a single multi‐sensorial environment how 3M Architectural Markets can
bring exciting new possibilities to the architecture and design communities.
3M can provide expertise not only in surfaces and lighting, but also the interplay between these features, which designers know can have a dramatic effect on a project.
“Infinite Innovation” exhibition is intended to communicate how 3M Architectural Markets brings the company’s strong tradition of innovation into the design world to help architects, interior designers and building owners create amazing spaces.
4. The Process: Describe the rigor that informed your project. (Research, ethnography, subject matter experts, materials exploration, technology, iteration, testing, etc., as applicable.) What stakeholder interests did you consider? (Audience, business, organization, labor, manufacturing, distribution, etc., as applicable)Designers face a myriad of challenges when embarking on a new project, with constraints in
the budget, timeframe, material capabilities and many other factors contributing to the
problem. A talented designer, of course, can overcome many of these challenges to produce
a space that brings his or her vision to life. The key to success is knowing the tools that are
available to help creatively conquer a project’s constraints.
The project is the ideal demonstration of how 3M technologies enable the realization of those creative ideas, and how Ambient Culture and the versatility of 3M Architectural Markets’ offerings can inspire unique projects and deliver uncommon results.
5. The Value: How does your project earn its keep in the world? What is its value? What is its impact? (Social, educational, economic, paradigm-shifting, sustainable, environmental, cultural, gladdening, etc.)The value of “Infinite Innovation” exhibition is to bring to the design community a new perspective on surfaces and lighting in combination, and to show how 3M new lighting and surface decorating solutions are creating a great opportunity to blend surface finishing and natural and artificial lighting solutions in new ways that create exciting interior environments.
A project of great value due to complexity and transversal reading of various components that define good design. Fluidity and function of space, with an efficient support based on language and communication on what it aspires to transmit. The physical and cognitive elements are perfectly assembled, with a representation of the constructed space and the transformation of the product into good ideas, even having an infinite of materials and contained forms. The surprise through the course of the exhibition, invites the user to discover the materials and its forms limited by color, sound and body, pleasuring our senses.
