“nuts.” is a package design for six different kinds of nuts: pistachios, macadamias, cashews, almonds, walnuts, and pecans. The design helps to provide a healthy and a convenient way of eating nuts for snacks. The outer box is a refillable storage for the small individual packets of nuts. “nuts.” gives the consumers the organic panache using the colors of the nuts and paper as the media for the package.
2. The Brief: Summarize the problem you set out to solve. What was the context for the project, and what was the challenge posed to you?Today, a lot of people are having diet-related diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. One of the main causes of the diseases is the wrong eating habits (diet). Nuts are one of the common but healthy snacks people can consume. However, many people do not know the benefits of nuts and the proper amount that should be consumed daily. Therefore, I wanted to design the package for nuts that is informative and at the same time, visually appealing.
3. The Intent: What point of view did you bring to the project, and were there additional criteria that you added to the brief? When I asked people about nuts, they only knew it was good for the body, but did not know the nutritional value of the nuts. Also, a lot of people did not know that there is a recommended daily intake of nuts. The lack of knowledge of nuts, my favorite snack, made me want to design the package for nuts that provides a recommended daily intake and information about nuts. I also thought it would be nice if it was easily portable at the same time.
4. The Process: Describe the rigor that informed your project. (Research, ethnography, subject matter experts, materials exploration, technology, iteration, testing, etc., as applicable.) What stakeholder interests did you consider? (Audience, business, organization, labor, manufacturing, distribution, etc., as applicable)I first had to research about the benefits and the recommended daily proportion of each nut. Then, to achieve the organic flair of the package, I had to find the right material. Searching for the suitable material, I had the idea of using paper. However, when I tried using only paper, there were smudges of oil on the paper from the greasy nuts. So, I put wax paper inside the packages to protect them from the grease. Also, considering the waste problems in the world, I thought it would be nice if the design were refillable. Accordingly, I made a container box that is not only refillable because it has slits, but also easy to see the remaining packets. As a result, consumers can enjoy easy-to-go nuts in a healthier way.
5. The Value: How does your project earn its keep in the world? What is its value? What is its impact? (Social, educational, economic, paradigm-shifting, sustainable, environmental, cultural, gladdening, etc.)The refillable container box helps to reduce waste. Also the individual packages provide healthy information about nuts, which helps people to understand the nutritional value of the nuts. Because the individual packages only contain the daily recommendation of each nut, people do not have to worry about the consumption of eating the proper amount. Also, the appealing design makes people want to have the product, which will lead to a more healthy diet.
Convenient and refillable storage with a good clear differentiation between the different nuts. Really good packaging design.
