2. The Brief: Summarize the problem you set out to solve. What was the context for the project, and what was the challenge posed to you?Create a unique design language that reinforces the sensation of a connected creative community.
3. The Intent: What point of view did you bring to the project, and were there additional criteria that you added to the brief? The belief that creatives are like star–their careers are often hatched in dramatic fashion like the big bang. And one day, they’ll all burn out.
4. The Process: Describe the rigor that informed your project. (Research, ethnography, subject matter experts, materials exploration, technology, iteration, testing, etc., as applicable.) What stakeholder interests did you consider? (Audience, business, organization, labor, manufacturing, distribution, etc., as applicable)We had to look closely at the entire Boston creative community and interpret how everyone was interconnected in some fashion. We then used a minimalist design system of lines and nodes create a variety of infographics that highlight these linkages.
5. The Value: How does your project earn its keep in the world? What is its value? What is its impact? (Social, educational, economic, paradigm-shifting, sustainable, environmental, cultural, gladdening, etc.)Boston is a small city. And the industry here is even smaller. We are just one big creative family. Ultimately, this design system was a step forward in supporting this idea, and bringing the design community closer.
This piece has a mysterious feel to it that I really liked. Part science, part magic: it really piqued my curiousity and made me look closer, which is what all design should do. – Marian Bantjes
