My teacher, Rosie Rodrigues at SVA said, "Very often when you go shopping, you could blindly identify many items by just seeing or feeling their package. For example, we immediately recognize the packages in which eggs, milk or honey come in and strongly identify them with their contents." For this project, I need to create something that test the limit of people's perception toward package and relation of it's content.
2. The Brief: Summarize the problem you set out to solve. What was the context for the project, and what was the challenge posed to you?According to the Project Brief which wrote by my teacher Rosie Rodrigues, "Think of your own example of a package that is strongly identified with what it holds) and redesign it to hold something that is significantly different from the original item but for which the form of the package also follows the function of what needs to be packaged. Keep in mind that perceptions that are inherently connected with the original contents of the package will influence the impression of the new contents. For example: Design an egg carton (meant to transport something very fragile of oval shape) to hold six light bulbs. Use the egg carton as starting point and redesign it to hold your new items. Incorporate the written information that you find on the light bulb package (name, logo, size, wattage and number of bulbs in this package, barcode, etc.) in a graphically interesting way on the new package. Your choice can also be conceptual, but always also functional."
3. The Intent: What point of view did you bring to the project, and were there additional criteria that you added to the brief?I am very into sport, exercise and fitness. Through this project, I want to say exercise is the healthiest way to live a life. People always tell others to eat healthy or drink healthy. Actually, you are healthy as long as you do a sport or exercise everyday or twice every week. You do not need to be on a strict diet. Just enjoy exercise and have fun.
4. The Process: Describe the rigor that informed your project. (Research, ethnography, subject matter experts, materials exploration, technology, iteration, testing, etc., as applicable.) What stakeholder interests did you consider? (Audience, business, organization, labor, manufacturing, distribution, etc., as applicable)I mainly target to professionals who work nine to five. Often time, they are lack of exercising routine. Most of them are so busy that exercise do not fit in their schedule. I want to create a packaging base on the idea of fruit crate which delivers a message, "If you want to be healthy, do some exercise."
5. The Value: How does your project earn its keep in the world? What is its value? What is its impact? (Social, educational, economic, paradigm-shifting, sustainable, environmental, cultural, gladdening, etc.)Exercise Ball set usually have no package. Often time, they are placed in a plastic bottom. I think they deserve some good packaging design. Good packaging design, I do not mean something that is flowery or some meaningless athletic looking photos on a box. Good packaging design, I mean something that delivers a message. The message will leave an impact to society.
Great idea and really good illustrations.
