Inhale is a project to explore how a personalized information experience can help to build an emotional connection between data and the audience, and therefore make information more engaging, memorable and influential, without sacrificing objectivity, accuracy and efficiency. The installation illustrated the growing concern of particle pollution in the air. A hundred bottles hanging above represent cities from different continents, and water levels inside each bottle reflect the city's pollution index. The darker the color is, the higher the pollution index. The yarn connects the bottle with the city that is represented on the map. Smaller bottles on the table contain a different solution and are labeled as actions that people can take part in to reduce pollution levels. The project encourages its audience to participate instead of engaging only in passive observation. By taking an action to add the solution from the smaller bottle into a hanging bottle, the audience can see the colored water gradually become clear as the water level rises and the pollution index decreases.
Appreciate the thoroughness of the installation. Though there was a disconnect in elements the ideas were strong and it was a compelling case visually.
