MC1

The MC Collection is a line of bespoke furniture and accessories designed and produced in California. Each piece in the MC Collection reflects a merging of both technology and craft: utilizing the most sophisticated design tools to create finely tuned surfaces that are then paired with 19th century craft. These pieces are then manufactured in San Francisco's last operational metal foundry, employing lost-wax casting metal techniques typically used in the production of jewelry and sculpture. With a classic, timeless design, these pieces are built to last.

The MC Collection is designed for consumers who appreciate objects with exceptional, handcrafted quality and timeless design. The versatile system centers on the uniquely designed connection points. We created these lugs with a process similar to jewelry, using lost wax casting which allow us to bring intricate personality in both form and details. After casting, the lugs are machined to precise tolerances and finished by hand. They are then assembled to define the silhouette, allowing for multiple configurations to fit each customers aesthetic. The pieces are finished with stone, glass or wood tops that register and are held in by only their weight.

The MC Collection uses simple geometry to create a distinct aesthetic, where each table balances its iconic shape with a subtle uniqueness. Utilizing the process of lost wax casting, traditionally reserved for creating jewelry, all the MC pieces are delicate and detailed, taking advantage of the precision process to create tables that are beautiful from every angle. The central facet to the system is the connection point, a strong sculptural lug designed to secure the tubes and bring fluidity and simplicity to the design. With a simple construction comprised of these lugs and the attached tubes, the MC tables are flexible, resulting in multiple configurations that mix and match shape, color and material. The resulting design creates options for customization and change for customers, with a timeless look that fits in any environment.

Our goal was to create a family of products that are extremely well made, engaging, yet simple in form. We achieved this by employing 3 key principles:

• Quality: MC's lugs are designed and manufactured with the attention to detail and quality commonly seen in jewelry. Honed sculptural surfaces mate precisely with machined tubes and then fasten with micro set screws to create a precise fit.

• Engagement at every scale: Because the system can be disassembled and reconfigured over time, there is an inherent sense of customization. The stone, glass or wood tops are also easily transferrable.

• Beautiful simplicity: Where other similar products are often designed to be different for the sake of being different, MC1 can stand out in a room or fall into the background. Its simplicity is the key to its timeless quality.

Jury Commentary
A great use of a small joint that you are able to create a lot of different typology, so is a big range of product. Very elegant and flexible.
