The DXO One is a revolutionary miniaturized professional quality camera that connects directly to your iPhone® or iPad®. The camera delivers exceptional image quality in an extremely compact size, and offers sophisticated DSLR-like controls via a companion iOS app. At 3.8 oz (108 g) and 2.65" (6.9 cm) tall, the DxO ONE is so small that it easily fits in any pocket, yet it features an ultra-high quality f/1.8, 32mm equivalent aspherical lens with a variable 6-blade iris and a 1-inch 20.2MP CMOS BSI sensor capable of capturing high-resolution RAW images. The large sensor and fast lens combine to provide 10 times the light sensitivity of the iPhone camera, allowing the DxO ONE to take stunning images, even in the lowest light.

Currently, to take photos of DSLR quality, the user needs to lug around a large camera on a strap or in a camera bag. The DXO ONE enables photographers to have the power of a professional quality camera in their pocket. The DXO ONE also offers connectivity to the iPhone and the cloud never seen in this space, allowing users to easily edit and instantly share their favorite high-quality images with friends, family and followers.

We set out with the objective to deliver the power of a DSLR in a pocket-able form factor. We also wanted to marry the functionality of a DSLR camera with the connectivity of an iPhone. There were two main challenges facing the industrial design. The first issue was surrounding the iPhone connectivity. One of the requirements was a physical connection to to the iPhone via Lightning Connector. After several concepts, we ended on a side connector that can swivel so the camera can be angled independently from the iPhone. This connector also needed to be able to securely fold down when not in use to achieve the pocket-ability. The second major challenge was to optimize the volume while making the form both pocket-able and ergonomic. This was achieved by carefully sculpting around the components and driving a form language that balances soft surfaces with crisp intersections that tightly wrap the internals.

The industrial design called for a friendly, yet, capable aesthetic. Inspired by professional photography equipment and DXO image technologies, The DXO ONE marries functional surfacing with precision details. The carved pebble form has soft bull nose corners contrasted by flat surface intersections optimizing volume around components while enhancing pocket-ability.

The device housings are comprised of forged aircraft grade aluminum and glass reinforced ABS composite. This 50/50 material break up speaks to the intersection of technology and creativity where the science and art of photography reside.

Currently there are only a few competitors with DSLR sensors that offer connectivity to the iPhone. The DxO ONE is superior to competing connected camera designs in a number of respects. Competing products are nicknamed "lens cameras" because of their cylindrical designs, which makes it impossible to pocket them, thereby eliminating the mobility aspect. In addition, mounting these lens cameras to a smartphone is a cumbersome, two-handed operation, whereas the DxO ONE's connector can be extracted and the device connected to an iPhone in one fluid motion. Lastly, competing designs use WiFi to connect and communicate with a smartphone. WiFi is 7 times slower than the direct Lightning connection of the DxO ONE, which produces both a lag during image preview and composition, and delays from capture to browsing to sharing.

The DxO ONE is the culmination of over ten years of rigorous imaging research and groundbreaking optical design. Having secured their reputation by dramatically improving the image quality of 3rd party cameras embedded in smartphones and tablets, DxO's image scientists turned their attention inward, to the development of their very own camera. The design team dictated the new camera be significantly smaller than any comparably equipped camera, capture images of a quality that equals or exceeds those of popular DSLRs, and allow for those images to be shared instantly via a robust, high-speed connection to the Apple ecosystem. An exhaustive, two-year research and development effort yielded the award-winning DxO ONE, the world's first miniaturized pro quality camera made exclusively for iPhone and iPad.
