RAVEN kick scooter

"RAVEN" is a kick scooter which is the lightest design concept today which is made from carbon fiber material and the total weight is ~980g.

My biggest challenge was to try to reject all unnecessary details and leave just the essence of it. That is why it is absolutely minimalistic design, that is why it folds to absolute flatpack and does not take space when folded.

Last year I have presented PIGEON the kick scooter. This year I am finishing my postgraduate industrial design studies in Vilnius Academy of Arts. I started to appreciate kick scooters as a compact eco-vehicle more and more. Therefore I started to build one as my graduation project. It was absolutely amazing time, cause I finally realized what does it mean to create a real product, not only an idea, sketch, or CGI render but real scooter which would appear on a shop shelves whole around the world. The feeling is amazing. Last year I found investors from Switzerland who helped me to realise the PIGEON scooter and to start mass production with it. Together with them we created a company called "Citybirds" which designs, develops and sells kick scooters. While making attempts not to stop at what has been achieved we do our best to show our clear position on the impact of ecology on human life. Therefore, we started developing four different ecological products, kick scooters for different target groups. RAVEN kick scooter is one of those.

Firstly, the main idea of RAVEN scooter was to try to change the infantile behaviour of the subject itself. Try to make it more classy, more subtile, more user-friendly and comfortable. Therefore RAVEN kick scooter folds with just one movement with the hands. Consumers just need to unlock and rotate the handlebar which tights the cable and unlocks the locking system only with one movement. So it is absolutely comfortable in use. Moreover, we designed the orange gap in a middle of horizontal frame which gives the possibility to fold the whole scooter to absolute flatpack stick, which does not take much space. The streamlined shape of the RAVEN perfectly fits to a consumers shoulder therefore it gives a possibility to carry it easily when scooter is folded. Regarding the fact that we wanted to expand our target group and to create a trend which would involve the businessmen to be a part of this eco-friendly vehicle movement, we chosen to use carbon fiber material, for the reason of its luxuriance, stability and lightness. Therefore RAVEN scooter weights only 980grams.

My present ambition is for the people throughout the world to change their approach to things that seem unchangeable and to turn hurrying into a pleasant and useful process. I really believe that we can change the approach to this new, simple and comfortable city vehicle.

I have learned a lot new things from this amazing process, and now I understood that today design is not only a material you chose, shape or function you create, nevertheless it is super complex process which involves designer to become a part of marketing, physics, engineering, business, political or social movement, sustainability, advertising, environment etc. I am truly grateful and happy to be a part of this amazing ecosystem and create the better routine for all the people around the world.

Jury Commentary
Beautiful, and beautifully thought through. Apparently effective and essential, with low parts count and carry weight.
