Ace Hardware has advocated themselves as "the helpful place" and provide personal customer service within a local atmosphere. The brand embodies the "do it yourself" and maker movements, providing more than 100,000 items within the store. Even though it advocates a personal experience, the current ace hardware store feels impersonal and does not provide a connection between us and nature. Envisioning a biophilic store space, incorporating natural materials, natural light, vegetation, and natural world into the built environment.
Implementing Ace in an environmentally aware, personal hardware store that celebrates the quietness within life and the beauty that comes with age. Playful, raw products allow urban artists to breathe, feel calm, and empowered enjoying greenery in their living space. To make life better for an urban artist who strives for self-care, functionality, and authenticity within the busyness of life.
Inspired by imperfection and the Japanese traditional aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi. Wabi means to celebrate the quiet moments. Sabi means to see the beautiy that comes with age and wear. Typographic asymmetry is used within the graphic application to convey a sense of play. The graphic patterning and forms references the idea of flexible folding forms that expand and contract. Bright greens connect you to your surroundings, allowing you to feel calm yet playful while inviting greenery into your space. The use of raw corrugated board, Neenah Environment paper, and biodegradable seaweed based paper provide sustainable solutions to the new Ace. Open spaces within the straights and curves of the logo reference a sense of calmness and simplicity. It is the evolution of Ace, bringing harmony and balance within the form. To build a space that welcomes the exploration of relationships within the intersection of us, nature, and the built environment.
To invest in indoor and small-space gardening. After various interviews, there were similar conversations in each where most don't have the space, time, or energy to care for plants in their living space even if they desired to do so. This underscores the need for more flexible, scalable ways to grow greenery, whether it be flowers, herbs, or various plants. To allow for simpler and more accessible ways when caring for in-door plants in order to make the most out of the space available.
The family of packages consists of herb and vegetable seeds, flower seeds, shears, seed pellets, spray bottle, and potting soil. Each designed for the daily routines and authenticity of urban life. Utilizing ergonomics within the design of the packaging such as the seeds, where once the package is opened, the shape opens up and allows for comfortable grip. Ultimately to not only make life better for the urban artist who strives for self-care and authenticity, but also to create a playful yet calming space.
