Flux is a modular seating unit catered to the future outdoor workplace. Aiming to disassociate work and stress, it is motivated by the idea of allowing the outdoors (a place typically thought of as a place of leisure) into a place of productive work. Its form draws inspiration from the typical outdoor lounge chair allowing multiple work positions, but has a straight and high back to allow for concentration and productivity. The modular pieces balances between the need of collaboration and privacy.
FLUX contains a series of 3 modular pieces, the corner piece, ottoman, and desk. Each piece can be used a number of ways to create a system for collaboration. The corner piece is designed to cradle the user into a comfortable position, where they would be able to work in full privacy. The high backs allow for sound-proofing and the ability to have multiple corner pieces near each other without compromising solitude. When an ottoman is added to the corner chair, it allows for a range of comfortable positions to work in as well as possibility for a friend to join. The ottoman can also serve as a bridge between one corner chair to another.
Both the corner and ottoman has metal legs that come up onto an angle. This allows the table to seamlessly slip into the arrangement to create surface area to work on. The table features an insert drawer to allow for light storage. The shape of FLUX focuses on simple gestures that create graphic lines with the legs complimented with an effortless cushion top.
