Q-tip Packaging Redesign Concept

Q-tips have been the staple brand for cotton swaps since their creation, they have kept a similar brand language with little evolution in recent years. This is a concept to differentiate from the pack and create a better package for Q-tips. A clean, simple theme fits the product's function and will help the aesthetic fit with today's brands. As well as a new package design to naturally dispense Q-tips will help usability. The user has the capability to rip off the entire side to access all cotton swaps within the package, or remove the front strip to grab only a couple at once. The shape lends itself to be laid in any arrangement and can surely stick out on a shelf compared to it's competitors.

I am a recent graduate of Arizona State University and finished this project in the last semester of school when taking a packaging design course. The prompt was to

The main issue with the existing packaging is the fact that it is difficult to just grab a single Q-tip. Another issue is the fact that they are not supposed to be inserted into the ears, and that explanation is in small print on the packaging. And the other pictures to depict the use are pretty vague. The package also is in a shape that is no different than any competitor brands and isn't versatile for the places it would usually be stored.

The initial intent was to design a clean, modern looking logo to define the brand. The goal was to make it easier for the user to access their Q-tips and the logo was meant to compliment that. The package itself was to be made to the user could easily grab one Q-tip at a time. The idea was to make a dispenser of Q-tips, with the package. Also to have it stack nicely for shipping and stand out in the store.

The main way to grab the Q-tips is to pull off the main tab and take one or two at a time after opening the front tab and exposing the hole. The other option would be to rip off the entire side using the tab given and have access to all of the Q-tips at once. The user would then place the package on its side.

Jury Commentary
Clever packaging, unique shape and hygienic. Simple & clean, this concept matches to product and good functional.
