Pikapoo

Pikapoo is a dog poop cleaning system + recycling system that includes an application, a robotic waste cleaner product (PooBot) and an automated waste disposal unit with cleaner charging base.

The application specifically solves dog waste problems, gets best care for your dog and educates dog owners meanwhile. A built-in dog waste disposal system is designed and aided by PooBot — a smart dog waste cleaner. PooBot collects your dog's waste, generates a sample delivered to the vet for diagnosis and transfers the rest of the waste to community disposal unit for reuse.

Market research

Dog ownership in China is relatively new and owners lack knowledge and experience on how to care for their pets. With the recent, rapid population growth of dogs in China, this is causing countrywide problems with pet waste becoming a nuisance in public places and also tension in neighborhood relationship.

In order to solve this problem, I designed an APP locating user's dog's poop and call PooBot to pick up poop; checking user's friend location and walking dog with friends; receiving fecal test reports; making appointments with veterinarians; shopping dog supplies. I designed a Poobot, when the user clicks the "P", it arrives and picks up poop. It takes a sample of the poop for fecal test and then delivers the remaining portion to the waste disposal unit. I also designed the waste disposal unit that contains micro-organism to turn the dog waste into environmentally-friendly rich liquid that nourishes the lawn.

My designs are all based on academic research and existing technology to make sure each one works well. I used design methodologies to analysis the situation of dog feces and did interviews to figure out how people think about their dogs and dog stools and the reason that people do not pick dog stools up.
