Card79 partnered with Relish Life to design monthly subscription packages and create a packaging system that provides members with a delightful and sustainable delivery of their medication while reinforcing the company's commitment to holistic weight loss and mental health. Relish is a company that makes weight loss achievable and sustainable by delivering weight loss medication to your door once a month. Each cardboard package includes a recyclable pouch which contains the weight loss medication and a complimentary gift that is held in the built-in compartment and can be customized each month to reward members in new ways.
The challenge we faced when designing this product was trying to create packaging that was optimized for usability and sustainability while still standing out from traditional cardboard packaging. We wanted to design an enjoyable unboxing experience for our users which led to this product's distinctive perforated tear-off strip that allows for easy opening and bright graphic prints on the interior while having a muted brown corrugated cardboard finish on the outside.
The materials and construction of this packaging were chosen with sustainability in mind as we opted to use eco-friendly materials or materials that are easily recyclable. Because this would be a monthly mailer, we made every effort to carve away any unnecessary material from the packaging design so that the packaging was stripped back to its functional essentials.
Overall, Relish packaging was designed to be innovative, functional, and sustainable.

Card79 had two goals in mind for the Relish medication monthly subscription box: the first one was to have the smallest possible environmental footprint possible as it would be shipped every month on a recurring basis, and second, to shift the conversation surrounding weight loss to be less about how difficult or unattainable it is into a realistic and achievable outcome which we conveyed through the friendly and approachable packaging design.
The box size was specifically designed for utility. The 4x6in dimensions fit all standard shipping labels and with a single piece of corrugated cardstock, we created a delightful unboxing experience by having minimal prints on the outside and using vibrant prints on the inside. The exterior design is purposefully discreet with the idea of making Relish "theft preventative" when the packaging is delivered to your door. We leveraged this by simply making the outside plain with minimal printing which is then counteracted by the vibrant interior that the user gets to experience. Users can easily open the packaging by removing the perforated tear-off strip on top which naturally unfolds to reveal the contents.
We amplified the Relish brand through creative, light-hearted copy and vibrant graphics, creating a cohesive design across both the website and the packaging to stay fully immersed in their relish journey through digital and real life experiences. The vibrant print on the packaging is inspired by the term "life salad"- a series of fruits and vegetation, taking the user into a different type of world. We wanted to ensure that the delivery of the product is full of positive messages which is why we created a pouch with the message "Damn it feels good to love yourself." Relish aims to create a consumer solution and inspire customers to be their best authentic self. After working closely with the Relish team to identify key aspects of the brand personality and their values, we then translated these into a design that captures the empathetic personality of the brand.
For sustainability, our innovative design reduces the amount of wasteful packaging material used in each shipment. By using cardboard without polymers, the box itself is more eco-friendly. Inside contains a recyclable pouch to hold the medication, effectively circumventing traditional hard-to-recycle medicine bottles. This all works to create a sustainable, practical, and beautiful package.
Relish's product adds quality to everyday life as the brand believes there is no health without mental health and the packaging design helps drive this mission home. We also believe that mental health starts with community which is why we also included featured member cards within every monthly package that member's receive, reminding them they are not alone.
