Tatami has long been widely used as a typical home building material. However, in most circumstances, the application of Tatami has always been in the form of "mats", in other words, 2-Dimensional and assembled. So now it begs the question: What if the existing form of Tatami could be altered? Could it perhaps exist in multiple states? The concept of this collection, "Tatami Furniture," is to challenge the elasticity of Tatami and break free from the restriction of 2-D design. Induce new aesthetic forms to this traditional culture.
"SIJYU" is derived from the Chinese pronunciation of " ??", which represents the early lifestyle living based on the mats. Tatami has been widely used in home furnishings. But the application of Tatami has always been in the form of flat.
What if the form of Tatami could be altered? If there is an opportunity to create the possibility of Tatami's being placed in different fields?
By changing the shape and breaking through the flat form of the past, challenging the curving limits of the material. Tatami can be used from indoor to outdoor, and the way of use is no longer restricted by mats, but can be used as desks, dining tables, or even benches in different scenarios.
Preserving the traditional art of tatami and developing new products, creating other possibilities, and inducing new aesthetic forms to this traditional culture.
