2. The Brief: Summarize the problem you set out to solve. What was the context for the project, and what was the challenge posed to you?Wine needs to be properly chilled to maximize its flavor profile. Existing solutions like an ice bucket are cumbersome, messy and expensive.
3. The Intent: What point of view did you bring to the project, and were there additional criteria that you added to the brief?The CHILL is an integrated modern solution for chilling wines. Unlike existing competitors, the CHILL allows the consumer to cool, pour and preserve while it remains in the bottle. The CHILL’s cooling gel is precision engineered to bring wine down to the perfect temperature quickly, and maintain that temperature for hours.
4. The Process: Describe the rigor that informed your project. (Research, ethnography, subject matter experts, materials exploration, technology, iteration, testing, etc., as applicable.) What stakeholder interests did you consider? (Audience, business, organization, labor, manufacturing, distribution, etc., as applicable)We underwent a significant development process to find a way to injection mold the CHILL in a material capable of withstanding the expansion of cooling gel in a freezing cycle. The wrong material will crack when frozen and thawed repeatedly. The CHILL took a tremendous joint effort between design, operations and manufacturing to solve this issue, and modify tooling to accept the perfect plastic to use in such an unusual product. In addition, great care was taken to insure all materials are food-grade, non-toxic and BPA free- if it goes in your wine, a product must not impart any chemicals or flavor.
5. The Value: How does your project earn its keep in the world? What is its value? What is its impact? (Social, educational, economic, paradigm-shifting, sustainable, environmental, cultural, gladdening, etc.)In developing the CHILL, we strove to distill the individual problems evident in the wine-chilling process, and integrate them into a clean, modern product that any wine drinker would immediately know how to use. The CHILL fits seamlessly into the wine drinking experience, quietly providing the user with a solution to improve their wine appreciation.
