OXO Brew Compact Cold Brew Coffee Maker

Not all cold brew lovers have big kitchens and room to spare. The OXO Brew Compact Cold Brew Coffee Maker is a space-efficient way to create coffee perfection in any kitchen. The brewing container can make a week's worth of coffee at a time, and can be easily stored on a standard-height fridge shelf. Simply add ground beans into the container, pour water though the perforated top, soak for 12-24 hours, and drain the coffee into the glass carafe. The system is easy to clean and looks beautiful sitting out on the kitchen counter.

Cold brew coffee has become as mainstream as cappuccinos, but unlike the plethora of at-home options that exist for hot coffee and espresso lovers, the cold brew sector has lagged behind, with users often resorting to DIY brewing methods. OXO tackled this issue several years ago by launching a better-designed and more counter-top worthy cold-brewer. Building off the success of the full-size cold brew coffee maker, OXO wanted to address customer feedback and provide an option that requires less space, is easier to store, and is accessible at a lower price point.

The Compact Cold Brew Coffee Maker provides and approachable option that is sleek and space-efficient while retaining a small-batch craft coffeehouse vibe. Details like a cork stopper with a silicone seal and a borosilicate glass carafe retain an upscale feeling while remaining practical and accessible to cold brew novices.

During development, our design research confirmed that cold brew fans want to keep it simple. The recipe and process needed to be decoded and communicated in the easiest and most repeatable way. Simple graphics (such as a bean icon that notes the fill line for coffee grounds) help guide users through the steps. First, water is poured onto ground beans through a rainmaker-style defuser and a cover prevents dust, debris, and fridge odors from entering the vessel as it slowly brews overnight. When the coffee is ready, the brewing vessel is then placed on top of the glass carafe and automatically drains. An ultra-fine, stainless steel mesh filter prevents coffee grounds from entering the carafe and can be detached for easy cleaning. The filter is infinitely reusable so there is no need to purchase a single-use filter that gets tossed out every time. When not in use, the the brewer and carafe nest together for easy storage.
