Assignment:
Design and brand an exhibition. Design an installation that promotes the event.
Concept:
AFROPUNK Festival is a music festival/human rights movement. The movement was described by the New York Times as "the most multicultural festival in the US." The word AFROPUNK has become synonymous with open-minded, non-conforming and an unconventional community, placing the institution at the epicenter of urban culture inspired by alternative music.
Design
The custom typeface, APF Display, is designed for the logo and the whole identity system. Focusing on individuals and positive energy of their community and music, AFROPUNK Festival becomes unique and introduces its own visual language in a very playful way. Each element of the identity system works as a communication tool for them. The poster series is designed to communicate the idea of who they are as a festival as well as a human rights movement. With the new identity system, AFROPUNK is ready to share new stories with the world.
The video shows an interactive installation is designed for their 15th Anniversary event, Afrotopia, along with the black and white poster series. Its theme is a mixture of AFROPUNK and Afrofuturism. Afrotopia celebrates art, music, and films as well as each individual.
How can we create shared experiences with music? And Can we use our body movement as a tool for protest? Those are challenges that I had in mind for this installation. And the installation is a solution that I came up with.
