Project Overview

Wiss introduces an ultra-durable family of scissors that are designed for professional performance. Engineered with precision ground stainless steel blades and industrial-strength handles, these exceptionally tough tools provide razor-sharp cutting for the shop, home, and garage.

These heavy duty shears are capable of cutting a wide variety of light, medium, and heavy duty materials including paper, cardboard, blister packaging, rubber hose and sheet, leather, wire screen, and insulation. They fill the gap between "kitchen drawer" scissors and heavy duty snips.

Voice of the Customer research (multiple focus groups and on-site interviews) showed that end users prefer shears that:

* Appear "sharp" in shape; knife like. A sharp profile of the blade, specifically the point, is perceived to be cut more cleanly and easily.

* Are strong and tough. Extensions of the steel blade were purposefully designed to extend thru the back of the handle eyes to show this added strength feature – no broken handles under heavy load. Titanium coating was specifically used and called out as end users perceived this to be stronger than steel. Design of the handle eyes portrays strength and safety from "knuckle busting."

* Are in control. Design of the handle eyes allows for increased control, specifically the area under the lower eye for "trigger finger" access. End users sub-consciously use this feature for added control when cutting.

* Are built to last. Stainless steel blades, titanium coating, and glass filled nylon handles ensure a long product life.

We applied this user insight to design and engineer this family of high performance, medium price point scissors.
