Designed for comfort, approachability, and ease-of-use, Oculus Go is our first standalone Virtual Reality product that does not require an external device (PC or compatible mobile phone) to power the experience while in VR. The all-in-one headset is the most portable and shareable VR device on the market today, allowing people to experience the magic of VR, and share meaningful experiences with the people they care about, regardless of physical distance.
The understated exterior of Oculus Go hides innovative features that enhance fit and comfort, allowing people to experience VR content comfortably for longer periods of time. A new system to channel on-board audio closer to the ears eliminates unwanted cable clutter and improves the ability to quickly get in and out of VR, making it easier to share experiences among friends. The aluminum front the device plays two roles, bringing a quality material to the most visible side of the device while dissipating heat as far from the user as possible. A new orientation tracked controller, simplified in both form and function, leverages some of the handle geometry, interface angles, and trigger ergonomics from Oculus Touch for effortless gaming and navigation.
Building on the human factors and ergonomic learnings from Oculus Rift, the headset is both intuitive and comfortable. The facial interface was refined to accommodate a wider range of face shapes and sizes, and combined with the included glasses spacer, enables people to comfortably wear eyeglasses while in VR.
At the heart of the device, Oculus Go utilizes a new display panel and custom Fresnel lenses (second generation Rift lenses) that provide high-quality optics and stunning overall visual clarity of the VR experience.
Created with the goal of reducing the barriers to experience VR, Oculus Go was designed to maximize comfort and deliver a great standalone VR experience. An equally important goal was to reduce the cost to the consumer to allow more people to experience VR. The result is a headset and ambidextrous controller that are comfortable, intuitive to use, and can be purchased starting at $199US.
Extensive research helped us design our most comfortable facial interface to date. Partnering with garment and technical apparel suppliers, Oculus Go utilizes a new injection molded foam process, allowing the facial interface component to be more precise and consistent in mass production versus traditional compression molding techniques. The soft head straps are both comfortable and collapsible, allowing Oculus Go to easily store in a bag or a backpack for portability. With a familiar, but simplified size adjustment method, Oculus Go is easily resized by adjusting the strap length and securing the hook and loop tabs at the sides of the headset. Oculus Go also has a removable top strap for a simpler look. To further mitigate system heat generated by the on-board processing, the anodized aluminum front face plate acts as both a heat spreader and a cosmetic housing component, reducing the need to cover an unsightly heat sync with additional plastic parts or exterior venting details.
An innovative integrated audio solution enables high-quality spacial audio that is piped from speakers inside the headset housing, through the strap arms, and delivered through audio ports near the ears. This removes the need for headphones and unnecessary cables, making Oculus Go much easier to share with friends. For people who want a more private or tuned audio experience while in VR, Oculus Go is also outfitted with a 3.5mm audio jack to work with nearly any headphone. The low profile fabric straps also enable the use of in-ear and over-ear headphones.
As an alternative to glasses, Oculus has partnered with FramesDirect to make custom prescription lens inserts for use with Oculus Go. The Rx inserts can be attached in front of the headset lenses, eliminating the need to wear glasses while in VR.
The lightweight, symmetrical orientation tracked controller is comfortable in both hands. Due to the unique handle design the Oculus Go controller enables simultaneous actuation of the index finger trigger and top plate interface to enable immersive game-play and intuitive VR content navigation.
Oculus Go's simple, robust design brings a series of unique solutions together with a wealth of VR knowledge to make great Virtual Reality more accessible.
