"CAPTin Kiel" is a collaborative effort between the universities of Kiel as well as several maritime businesses around the city to rethink the public transportation system around the Kiel fjord. The projects main focus is to create a new type of passenger ferry that is both autonomous and uses clean and eco–friendly energy.
„CAPTin Kiel" stands for Clean Autonomous Public Transport in Kiel. The city is growing and city mobility needs attractive offers to make car abandonment easier and achieve the ambitious climate goals. To reach this goal a continuous ferry connection between the west and the east shores over a longer period of time per day in a closer frequency is needed.
The project deals with the development of an autonomous mobility system through the combination of clean bus and ferry traffic in Kiel. The proposals are characterized by pragmatism and radicalism alike. Conscientiously, technically functional parameters are examined in an affordable framework, with which the concepts become thinkable and resilient.
During the project, two different concepts, which called „Floating Platform" and „Passage", have been designed by the group of Master's students.
