Cirrus and Stratus

Traffic accidents in most cases are due to the negligence of drivers and any excuses given by drivers are that they did not see the red light. We seek to address this area and therefore we came out with the conceptual idea of Cirrus and Stratus. Their main idea revolves around the Tyndall effect. Like the reason why we can see clouds in the sky, we harness this idea and introduce it into a traffic system. The use of this traffic system greatly increases the signal area, yet without compromising the area taken up, thereby allowing buses to pass through without any issue.

CIRRUS is a traffic light with a re-imagined visual effect. Its downward-facing LED strip is projected on a veil of mist, producing a more prominent footprint and bolder signal that captures drivers' attention without compromising physical space. CIRRUS' design is inspired by the form of robust tree trunks, whose presence along roads is harmonious with Singapore's "City in a Garden" vision.

STRATUS is a pedestrian crossing system that employs an LED and misting system projected horizontally along pedestrian crossings, where incidents involving unaware right-turning cars are common. By creating an immediate light barrier that effectively captures drivers' visual space, STRATUS draws their attention to blind spots around corners. Shaped like a leaf, STRATUS is meant to blend harmoniously with CIRRUS.
