Volvo play is an interactive installation meant to educate visitors on how hyper-connected systems boost the productivity of logistics services. Today, customers aren't sure how exactly better technology, connectivity and automation can streamline and optimise their industry. The installation delivers a story that is engaging and easy to grasp.
The installation uses Augmented Reality & NFC technology to create a bridge between the physical experience and a digital interface. Seeing a physical object transform into a digital one in front of one's eyes makes the experience intriguing enough to make visitors stop and play, sparking conversations on connectivity and the future workplace.
The biggest challenge for the installation was its public location. Visitors are easily distracted and grabbing their attention was critical. In this environment, physical interactions come very naturally to people. Grabbing objects and placing them in physical space without any prior knowledge of how to use the interactive installation is an indication that physical interactions are always more intuitive than digital ones.
Physical interactions come naturally, but digital ones are learned over time. With the use of playful and intriguing tangible and digital artefacts, the experience engaged and attracted a lot of visitors allowing them to quickly learn and experiment with different solutions together.
