TCIS - Tangible Car Infotainment System is a concept for a redesign of the automative interior. The focus was to reduce the amount of input required. It merges a haptically pleasing user element with the advantage of a touchscreen.
The core element, the tangible item, which also serves as the car key, is used by moving it around on a digital surface. Depending on where it is set on the surface, users can control various settings of the system. For example if the item is placed in the multimedia zone, the volume can be adjusted by turning, the next song can be played back by tapping the item to the right. A contextual menu is always available by clicking on the item. This concept concentrates on showing various possibilities to redesign the automative interior. It is extendable to cover the full requirements of a car. For this work we chose to concentrate on two areas, climate and multimedia, to demonstrate new types of interaction.
