We believe that VR as a medium will transform the way we communicate, create and experience content. As we dove into VR projects, however, we found that experimenting with this new form of storytelling and engagement posed a brand new set of challenges. Rapid iteration and refinement, a corner stone of any human centered design process, was even more essential in VR. Yet we found no tools to help us envision and plan VR experiences without first investing time and resources into development.
That is why we created Storyboard VR, a prototyping and visualization tool that helps content creators, artists and designers use their existing skills to imagine and visualize VR experiences while in VR. Storyboard VR is the ideal tool that anyone can use across industries to experiment and design how they want their VR experiences to look and feel before they invest time and resources in development. Storyboard VR is the immersive, 3D equivalent of storyboarding an experience, allowing non-developers to create, plan and prototype in VR rapidly and inexpensively.
As designers and developers working on VR experiences, we created Storyboard VR from the ground up as a tool to help us visualize, prototype and communicate VR experiences. Essentially, we created Storyboard VR to help bridge the gap between designing and developing a VR experience. Here's how it works:
· Storyboard VR is the perfect tool for designers, artists and content creators because it doesn't require coding or development skills like many current VR tools. To use Storyboard VR, you simply select a sphere map, set your dimensions and then upload transparent images, like .pngs or Photoshop files.
· Using the intuitive Storyboard VR menu, select, place, size and duplicate your images to populate your environment and create a scene that looks the way you want. Storyboard VR helps bring your VR vision to life quickly, as well as rapidly iterate new ideas and make changes without wasting time and resources in development.
· True to its name, Storyboard VR allows you to duplicate scenes you have created and then make changes, edits and additions to show progression and story flow. Almost like a VR flipbook, Storyboard VR's multiple scene creation allows you to quickly sketch out how your VR experience will take shape.
· Once you have designed your VR world and narrative, easily export a video file from Storyboard VR to quickly share and gather feedback from team members, developers, or clients. Storyboard VR allows you to show your vision for VR to get everyone on the same page before development, saving time and resources later in the VR process.
