Inspired by Southeast Asian hawker centers and North American food truck culture, Harth Food Trucks are designed to give owners a say in what and where theycook without having to purchase a food service vehicle. The food trucks are built on a rack and pinion lift system to allow users the opportunity to own a fullyfunctioning restaurant on wheels. The owners are only responsible for the food they cook and the depot takes care of the rest. Our design affords renters theexperience of owning and operating a restaurant without purchasing a brick and mortar location.
Challenges Faced:
The challenges we faced included: how to make a food truck more approachable; how to alleviate the stress of owning and operating a foodservice vehicle; and how to modernize a food truck experience without dehumanizing it.
Unique Design:
The food truck is built in such a way that customers areable to dine underneath the vehicle while the galley sits above them suspended by a rack and pinion lift system. This system allows the owners to operate what isessentially a mobile restaurant without ever having to sink money into a brick and mortar location that may or may not be successful.
User Experience:
By strippingaway the actual need to operate and maintain a food truck we give the owner the ability to worry only about the food that they are cooking. The vehicles add anadditional layer to the dining experience where customers are actually able to sit and enjoy the space as opposed to being hurried away. This interaction spacecreates a communal feeling that brings an increased level of humanity to the food truck dining experience.
Benefits to Client:
Our trucks are designed to offer theowners the unique opportunity to cook without concern for the logistics of a typical food truck. The owners no longer have to drive, maintain, or service their ownvehicles as that is taken care of at the Harth Food Trucks Depot. The design allows customers to sit, relax, and socialize in a space that is designated for thatparticular vehicle, allowing operators to create a unique food service environment. Benefits to Society Harth Food Trucks offer owners the ability to share theircuisine on a larger scale at a low cost of manufacturing relative to the average price for a food truck. The trucks create a mobile community space that allowscustomers to gather and dine together. All of the waste generated by the trucks is biodegradable, including the food packaging.
