Barber & Osgerby and Isokon Plus celebrated 21 years of collaboration in 2017 with the launch of the Ballot Chair. The Ballot Chair is simple and tactile which makes it a seamless edition to the Isokon Plus collection.
Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby collaborated with iconic, East London-based furniture maker Isokon Plus to create the Ballot Chair, a handcrafted, solid oak design which was showcased by Isokon Plus at designjunction, as part of London Design Festival 2017.
The launch celebrated the 21st anniversary of Barber and Osgerby's first collaboration with Isokon Plus, on the Loop Table which Edward and Jay designed together shortly after graduating from the Royal College of Art.
Building on the language of the Home Dining Table and Portsmouth Bench, both made by Isokon Plus, Barber and Osgerby's lightweight and stackable Ballot Chair makes it ideal for domestic and commercial settings. The chair is available in natural oak and black stained oak.
The most significant design challenge in the development of the Ballot Chair was to produce a chair which efficiently stacks whilst retaining an elegant form. The sections of oak that make up the chair are thin but extremely strong, enabling the back of the chair to be narrower at the top of the chair.
The Ballot Chair is a simple, tactile and versatile design which makes it a seamless edition to the Isokon Plus collection.
