Food Forest is a comprehensive fruit and vegetable sales system that integrates fruit tree and vegetable planting vending machines.

Pesticide residues remain as an issue throughout the world currently. In the United States, pesticide residues were found in 70% of agricultural product samples during pesticide residue tests in 2017, including polluted samples after being cleaned and peeled. Besides the United States, pesticide prevention and control remains as a difficult problem in other developed countries. In 2016, The Munich Institute of the Environment in Germany detected the pesticide residue "glyphosate" in 14 of Germany's most popular beers; in 2014, frozen foods samples were found to have pesticides "Malathion" which was 2.6 million times higher than acceptable level, causing more than 500 people poisoned. "Greenpeace", an International Environmental Organization, released "2015's list of fruits and vegetables with the most pesticide residue in Chinese first-tier cities", with small grape, cabbage and more than other 20 fruits and vegetables on the list.

It is very difficult for citizen residents to get green organic vegetables and fruits free of pesticides.

Therefore, we launched the "Food Forest" sales system of fruits and vegetables in order to fully solve the above problems.

When you are in need of fruits and vegetables, just pick up the freshest ingredients from planting utensils just through face scan. Residents can also participate planting by purchasing or renting single planting utensil in the planters, and enjoy planting interest in downtown.

Every planting utensil has rain collection system on the top, you can choose water planting or soil cultivation modes as you want. Three standard sizes of detachable utensils can be easily combined to plant various heights vegetables. Glass cover equipped with each planting utensil has three adjustment modes, namely normal planting mode (flexible breathable shutter glass), green house mode (hermetic glass) and shade-requiring mode (electrochromic glass). The plants' traits panel on planting utensil shows the conditions of plants such as water-lacking and so on.

Recreational areas around the planting area provide residents a place for outdoor sports, such as yoga, social activities and leisure.

The activity center in the recreational area has six main daily operations functions, namely sale of end products of fruits and vegetables (salads and desserts, etc.), sale of seeds and semi-finished products of fruits and vegetables, shared kitchens and restaurants, bakery classrooms, organization of events, parent-child interaction and food forest checkout.

Journey

Noticing that my neighbors and myself are hard to buy organic food, I decided to launch "food forest" vegetable and fruit sales system.

Therefore, I conducted some research, interviewed some residents who consumed what they planted, and understood their fun and difficulties during their planting. I noticed they had to make time-consuming efforts in their fields all year-round in order to get healthy organic vegetable and fruits free of pollution for their family members and themselves. I also investigated domestic and international planting appliances and patterns, and there still exist various problems to be resolved.

Therefore, in my opinion, residents are in need of food source that is quick, convenient, and time and effort saving, while food quality are ensured at the same time.

In conclusion, "food forest" fruit and vegetable selling system can fulfill following goals:
1.Fruits and vegetables for sale are natural, green, organic and pollution-free.
2. Fruits and vegetables are ready to eat instantly after being picked with high grade of freshness.
3 Residents can take participation based on their own needs, and enjoy planting experience without spending too much physical strength and time in cities.
4 Utensils with free combination of three modes can meet the planting needs of most people and plant growth.
