Cloud Water Filters flagship new product, the Cloud RO Filtration System, an under-sink reverse osmosis system rethinks every step of the pure water seeking user experience journey. Cloud RO delivers powerful smart filtration, eliminating 99% toxins like lead, PFAS, fluoride, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides. The Cloud Water Filters entire development process was focused on the end user. Our qualitative driven research team led to many breakthroughs, insights and to uncovering pain points inherent with existing RO systems currently on the market. These early consumer learnings drove us to focus on the importance of ease of setup, simple maintenance, and informational transparency.

As a DTC (Direct to Consumer) distribution model, special care was taken to help walk new owners though the unboxing, step by step. Unboxing in the most efficient and confident way was critical to help reinforce confidence and provide important knowledge. Cloud RO's unique modular design not only saves space, but it also allows you to change your filters outside of the kitchen cabinet (floor or countertop). Flip the front lever down allowing the magazine to pop off and all filter stages come right along with it to where you can more easily swap out filters with a quick twist and drop in battery. This splitting up of modules allows for quicker, safer, and more enjoyable experience. By packaging all the fluidic tubing, permeate pump and sensors into the compact base unit the user is spared the unsightly mess of clutter most competitive systems offer.

Unlike traditional RO systems, Cloud only ships filters when you need them. Water quality data is reported through the Cloud app and replacements are triggered based on filter health. Once your replacements arrive, Cloud's unique modular design allows you to easily change the filters on your countertop or wherever is convenient.

The access to clean drinking water is one of our most basic human needs. Clean water is currently under prioritized and underfunded by local governments and regional municipalities. The nations aging water infrastructure, many of which are still lead service lines according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently estimated that there are 9.2 million lead service lines across all 50 states.

At least 45% of the nation's tap water is estimated to have one or more types of the chemicals known as per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances, or PFAS.

Historically underfunded or underserved communities are disproportionately being impacted. It is just the beginning of an ever-growing problem across the country. That coupled with climate change and extreme weather events and flooding that are increasingly impacting water systems along with their aging infrastructure.

This is where Cloud RO enters the picture. We created a home system which not only creates exceptional drinking water, but it also collects important water quality data which can be collected for use across reginal and national municipalities to help isolate larger contamination. For instance if the neighborhood you live in has lead pipes, PFAS, or E.coli in your ground water Cloud RO collects this data and can alert the local municipality to the issue and isolate the cause to be corrected. This level of consumer transparency and advocacy is unprecedented in our current state we live. In the meantime, all we can do is vote for increased natural resource protection, improved infrastructures and the proliferation clean water advocacy which is so vital to our health, wellbeing, and our future generations survival on this tiny planet.

Our aesthetic goal was simple; reflect from the inside out the key elements of usage in a way that is elegantly refined and reserved yet highly recognizable. We focused on the primary features and touch points like the dominate front lever, signaling separation of the filter magazine form the base module allowing for ease of removal and filter replacement. The subtle vertical undulations hint to the 4 filters and battery pack inside that also provides intuitive alignment at reassembly. A two-finger squeeze allows the magazine lid to be removed and presents the filters for intuitive removal. Clear graphics and color-coding help walk the user through the new filter replacement process while the filter cap undulations communicate the twist action needed reseat the filters properly. The storage tank is an off the shelf component which we integrated with a custom sturdy base (not the stock tank that tends to unstably roll around) to help tie it together with the main unit color lineup. Nothing more, nothing less is needed to reflect confidence, security, and calm in a normally cluttered and underappreciated space in the home.
