How can we design a working environment that fits the needs of different creative individuals?
Draft is an office furniture product designed to help creative individuals to work better. The project prompt was to develop a set of office products. As a result, Draft is a system of different office products combined into one workstation; it is customized to cooperate with various people's workflow. By designing Draft, we want the users to spend less time worrying about organizing, planning, cleaning, and spend more time creating.
How can we create a new and improved work environment product?
After conducting interviews with numerous desk workers regarding their workspace setups, we discovered that everyone has their unique workflow and preferences when it comes to organizing their desk space. Based on our findings, we categorized their needs into three key areas.
Firstly, we aim to tackle the issue of physical mess. This often pertains to storage and cable management. What if we created a product that could effectively organize cables and provide clear storage solutions? Additionally, we believe that the flow of the desktop can impact one's mental state and efficiency. What if we developed a product that could facilitate a smooth workflow, enabling people to work at their most efficient layout?
Secondly, we want to design a workspace that is conducive to planning. Many users prefer different planning methods such as planners, calendars, cork boards, dry-erase boards, or digital planners. Imagine a workspace that already has its preferred planning method integrated into the product.
Lastly, we want to create a workspace that is personalized to the user. Many individuals like to incorporate their own unique style into their workspace with desk pets, plants, figurines, unique mousepads, or family photos. What if we created a product that enables users to fully personalize their workspace?
As a result, we have designed the Draft workstation, which allows users to choose the desktop material and plan the area for their workspace. The materials range from metal, glass, and wood (walnut, ash, mahogany, laminated) to vinyl surfaces. This variety enables users to make their tabletop as personal and comfortable as possible. Users can then select organizational components such as dry erase boards, cork boards, physical calendars, clocks, plan holders, and desktop planters. These choices allow users to customize their workstation to their efficiency habits while providing opportunities to personalize it further with family photos or small plants. Finally, users can choose customized electronic accessories, including a modular power strip, desk lamp, wireless charging pad, monitor arm, and drafting table. These accessories eliminate cord management issues, as the power cord will be managed through the slot on top of the workstation. The Draft workstation uses a customizable desktop surface and electronic slot to provide users with a personal, modular, and efficient work environment.
With more and more people working from home, the Draft workstation is designed to prioritize the worker's needs, allowing them to be their most efficient, relaxed, and comfortable selves.
