O-oyster

O-oyster is a versatile platform that serves both as an oyster aquaculture system and a wave power generator, embodying a cradle-to-cradle approach.

The main structure of O-oyster is crafted from oyster shells and seaweed gel. When damaged, it can be deliberately sunk to the seabed, functioning as an artificial reef to foster diverse marine life. Over time, it gradually decomposes, addressing the environmental concerns associated with traditional aquaculture materials like plastic, styrofoam, and ropes.

O-oyster can be assembled into offshore oyster farming fields, allowing oyster farmers to conduct cultivation activities either from boats or by walking on the O-oyster platform. Additionally, it can be equipped with duck-bill-shaped wave power generation devices, effectively mitigating damage to the aquaculture zone caused by large waves. This expansion of oyster fields helps meet the demand for stable sea current oyster farming in deeper waters.

//ISSUE
1. Oyster farming is crucial for economic development in Taiwan's coastal areas.

2. Oyster reefs play a vital role.

3. Environmental impact of oyster farming materials.

4. Pollution from oyster shell disposal.

//CONCEPT
O-oyster is a versatile platform serving as an oyster aquaculture system and a wave power generator, embodying a cradle-to-cradle approach. Crafted from oyster shells and seaweed gel, O-oyster can be deliberately sunk to the seabed when damaged, functioning as an artificial reef to foster diverse marine life. Over time, it gradually decomposes, addressing environmental concerns related to traditional aquaculture materials like plastic, styrofoam, and ropes. O-oyster can be assembled into offshore oyster farming fields, enabling cultivation activities from boats or on the platform. Equipped with duck-bill-shaped wave power generation devices, it effectively mitigates damage from large waves, meeting the demand for stable sea current oyster farming in deeper waters.

//USING PROCESS

STEP 1. Boats tow O-oyster for offshore placement.

STEP 2. After interlocking each O-oyster, they are inserted into anchoring pins, fixed in place, and hung with oyster strings.

STEP 3. On the windward side without oyster strings, install a generator and a securing sleeve.

STEP 4. At the end of the cultivation cycle, depending on the condition of the O-oyster, the generator and oyster strings can be disassembled, locally decomposed, and sunk to serve as an ecological reef.

//USER RELATIONS

O-oyster enables oyster farmers to reduce the cost of handling traditional aquaculture waste and achieve environmentally friendly practices and industrial cycles.

//BENEFITS

1. Reduces waste in the floating oyster industry.

2. Enhances oyster shell recycling.

3. Provides wave power light marking and buffering.

4. Increases biodiversity through natural ecological reefs.

5. Supports SDGs 12.2 by environmentally recycling crucial resources in the oyster industry.

6. Supports SDGs 14.1 by reducing sea and land pollution from traditional oyster farming, enriching marine ecology.
