In addition to the positive effect on body and mind, sport also strengthens cohesion. Thus, within the framework of the project "Pop Up Together" our "gym" was created: Soccer, Ping Pong, Basketball, Badminton & Outdoor Yoga! With our colorful sport equipment and tournaments, we wanted to brighten up the day-to-day life, after a long time of dull covid routine and quarantine measures, and get people on campus to socialize.
Basketball:
We created a stable framework, which is resistant to the acting forces, due to its base, which is made from several isosceles triangle structures. All the woods were screwed together and coated with a waterproofing layer. Some remained in their natural wooden color, whilst others were glazed or sprayed with paint to create a blend of authenticity and vibrant colors.
Soccer:
The triangular shaped sides of the goals were designed in the most efficient way. They are not parallel to each other but come closer together at the bottom in comparison to the top. This optimizes an already extremely stable structure.
There are oval handles on each side which make it possible to transport the goals effortlessly.
Usually on the backside of any goal there is a net, but we decided to go for a wooden panel, for it displays best our wonderful graphics.
Badminton & Volleyball:
The poles were fastened to the ground with steal cables and ground anchors. On the top of those poles resides a second hand wind machine painted in some of our characteristic colors that shows whenever it might be too windy to play badminton.
We fixed paper stencils of the graphics with tape on the net and then applied paint by hand with rollers and sponges.
The black straps on the left and right are Velcro. Thus, you can adjust the height of the net and play different sports – for example badminton and volleyball.
Ping Pong:
The graphics on the plate are divided into four sections, following the functional lines of an ordinary ping-pong table. Lively white shapes embellish a blue and green background. It symbolizes youth, dynamism, and an athletic spirit.
The legs are simple, as well as the net made of acrylic glass, and are both not attached to the plate. Therefore they can be disassembled, transported individually and be put away in a space-saving manner.
Textile Roof/ Outdoor-Yoga: At our relaxation spot for yoga, dance, etc., we gave old textiles - including tablecloths, bed linens and fabrics from the 70s to the 90s - a new life. The lightweight fabrics, which certainly made for a shady spot in the hot summer, shimmered in the light, danced in the wind, and created a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere.
