Terra Sacha is a full action facial cleanser, so it is more than just a cosmetic product.
This project was made in collaboration with Sacha AMARA in Cordoba Colombia and its community.
Nowadays skin care has taken a greater role as we are exposed to daily pollutants, from young people who commute everyday to those workers who use masks more than 5 hours a day.
While we can find some products that are capable of solving the aforementioned problem, Terra Sacha not only focuses on removing impurities from the skin, but also on how it will be used and the experience it can provide.
It is designed to be transported in small bags anywhere the user needs, commuting, camping or even travelling abroad.
This packing design has a biodegradable Natural Paperboard body, naturally BPA free, perfect for health conscious people. Reusable, recyclable or biodegradable.
It has two main components:
The liquid cosmetic product (50 mL) which is at the top, is composed mainly of Sacha Inchi from Cordoba- Colombia, it is contained in a thin Polypropylene bag and it uses a flip top lid to dispense the product. This idea reduces around 60% of the plastic used by the competition and the cosmetic industry.
The bottom part of the product contains 100% natural cleaning cottons made out of cellulose extracted from wood pulp, biodegradable and respectful with the environment. Free of harsh chemicals and does not irritate the skin.
This design starts with the community of Sacha AMARA in Córdoba- Colombia. The moment when they enter the cosmetic industry looking for a cheap and innovative product that can help them to stand out in the traditional cosmetic packages.
There were two main challenges during the design process, the first one was related to how we could transform the Sacha Inchi into a cosmetic product and the second one related to finding a product that could give value or even an experience to the final user.
During the research there were some variables like functionality, experience, manufacturing process and environment commitment that were a crucial factor for the client. Environmental awareness being one of the elements closely linked to the values of the brand.
After several weeks of investigation we finally found a design opportunity for a new product to succeed. The facial cleaners that are currently in the market rely heavily on complementary products such as cleaning cottons which are often offered by different brands. It was also relatively easy for the company to produce that particular cosmetic based on the equipment they had.
As a design team we started to conceive a product that could have both of them in a single packaging and that could help AMARA (the company) to be unique. Looking for a product that was not just a beautiful or pretty object, but a product that offered a different experience. This is how Terra Sacha was born.
Visual Identity:
The name of "TERRA SACHA '' is inspired by the region of Cordoba- Colombia. This region has a rich and incredibly amazing natural diversity. Most of it is surrounded by rivers, lakes and even swaps which are an icon and a representative element for the communities.
The visual identity of the packaging not just embraces the shape of the Sacha Inchi's seed (front view), it also shows those water waves that somehow pursuits the essence of the rivers and the peaceful atmosphere of the region.
The packaging and the experience:
Because one of the main values of the company is the environment commitment, we focus on reducing the use of plastics in the design. That is why it uses a biodegradable Natural Paperboard body which contains a thin Polypropylene bag that uses a flip top lid to dispense the product. This idea reduces around 60% of the plastic used by some of the competition.
The main Body also contains 100% natural cleaning cottons made out of cellulose extracted from wood pulp,
This design gives the user the freedom to transporte it everywhere they need while commuting.
The packing brings a letter from the farm families which thanks the buyer for supporting them.
