The Quartet is a side table comprised of four stools that stack together inconspicuously, providing extra seating for guests without requiring extra storage. Designed for small homes, the Quartet enables social gatherings inside the comfort of one's home.
The Quartet is a space-saving and multi-functional piece of furniture for apartment dwellers. Beyond its practical utility, the Quartet was originally designed to address the urban loneliness pandemic. Having lived in apartments most of her life, Otelier founder Yvonne Hung has experienced that loneliness, which can be worse in cities especially during COVID. Despite being surrounded by many people and things to do, one can ironically still feel isolated. The solution is friends, and the best environment to form deep friendships is not bars, concerts, work, or events, but rather, the home. It is the intimate and exclusive nature of hanging out in a friend's home that makes those bonds stronger.
However, living in cities means not always having enough space or seating to have friends over. That's where the Quartet comes in.
The patent-pending design comprises of four stools that fit together like a puzzle to form a side table. The visual minimalism with clean lines resonate in each of the separate stools as well as the combined table. The product comes in two options, "scalloped" or "polygon", to cater to different interior styles. Through many iterations, details were added to improve ergonomics, such as the flange to protect fingers when stacking, a handle to conveniently carry all four stools together, and glides on the bottom stool seat to protect the surface that touches the floor. The hardwood (beech or ash) with matte finish brings a natural warmth to any room.
Sustainability and durability are guiding principles for the Quartet. Made of FSC-certified hardwood (beech or ash) with non-toxic water-based finishes and mild steel brackets, the Quartet is designed to be long lasting and durable. The contract grade stools can hold up to 300 lbs each. The Quartet is shipped stacked, fully-assembled yet minimizing cargo space and carbon emissions. Each set is carbon-neutralized with offsets plus one tree planted.
More and more people around the world live in apartments. Furniture like the Quartet, which not only think about space but also mental health and wellness, are what this urban generation needs.
