Curveform:Customizing 3D form through 2D path printing

Our innovative design strategy integrates 3D printing technology with fabric to transform the production of shoes. By employing rapid 3D printing techniques on elastic fabric, we can create complex 2D structures that enhance the shoe's design and functionality. Our extensive research has uncovered a significant relationship between the curvature of the shoe and its pattern design, which facilitates fast and accurate manufacturing processes. This method allows us to produce a pair of shoes within just two hours, offering custom-fitted soles and uppers that adapt perfectly to the unique contours of each individual's foot.

In our pursuit of sustainability and efficiency, we utilize a 3D printing component made of PLA (polylactic acid) that is only 0.6mm thick, significantly reducing material waste and production costs. Our eco-friendly approach not only emphasizes recyclability but also meets market demands with flexibility, showcasing our commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of shoe manufacturing.

This fusion of cutting-edge technology and a strong commitment to sustainability represents a significant leap forward in the field of footwear manufacturing, setting a new standard for how shoes can be designed and produced in an environmentally responsible manner.

Overview: This invention outlines a 3D printing path planning approach tailored for form shaping of fabric, utilizing Gaussian curvature measurements at each surface point to guide the path creation.

Curvature Analysis: The method segments the model's surface into areas of positive, negative, and zero curvature based on comparisons with a threshold value, simplifying the surface's complexity for easier path planning.

Path Planning Process: For areas with negative curvature, paths are drawn along the direction of greatest curvature, connecting multiple points to align with the model's geometry.

In regions of positive curvature, a hexagonal pattern adjusts in size based on the curvature, creating a cohesive and visually consistent path.

Customization:
On zero curvature surfaces, paths can be adapted to include custom designs or left blank, depending on the user's choice, thereby supporting a wide range of aesthetic and functional preferences.

Fabrication: The actual 3D printing uses specific materials like pre-stretched elastic fabric and PLA, with parameters adjusted for the model's features. Post-printing, the product is finalized through trimming and fabric shrinkage, merging geometric analysis with manufacturing to boost efficiency, quality, and material optimization.
