The Kyon Tracker is the thinnest, most feature-rich pet communication tool ever produced, providing constant connection between owners and their pets. The advanced technology has been integrated into a durable,water-proof hardware design that resembles a traditional collar, allowing the device to interface to any leash and remain discrete in public.
This familiar design approach delivers the basic trustworthiness found in standard collars while incorporating a hidden LED display for notifications, sensors for health monitoring, GPS antenna for location and a 30-day battery-life. Paired with a mobile app, users are always connected to their furry friends for all-day monitoring while away.
Kyon approached Huge Design mid-development to help integrate their early set of engineering components into a more streamlined package for their first gen tracker product. They needed a strong design vision that could differentiate them from competitors and also gain acceptance from leery pet owners skeptical of high tech pet gadgets. Early engineering prototypes were too thick and incorporated rigid sections that housed batteries and sensors. The original adjustment/fit strategy relied on additional/complex spacer elements to size the product to fit different sized pets. These early explorations seemed overly technical and not familiar.
Huge was able to tap into their experience on past fitness wearable projects to help re-focus the Kyon team and provide guidance on simpler, more elegant ways to solve many of these complex issues. The vision Huge brought forward was to create a 'traditional' flexible rubber collar exterior with a localized rigid core that housed the electronics in a more visually clean way. This approach allowed the flexible ends to overlap in length and leverage a traditional collar adjustment strategy that all pet owners could intuitively use. The LED notification display was hidden below the durable rubber exterior and would magically appear/disappear when not in use. The high-polished charge dock utilizes a magnetic interface to connect to the flush contacts inside the band in order to self-locate for ease of use.
The overall design vision Huge brought forward was to celebrate the familiarity and comfort of a proven pet collar design with the streamlined intelligence integrated and hidden within the hardware.
Liked the very functional design and user experience. Neatly embedded display and good integration with the charging dock.
