Coffee robotics start-up Poursteady builds upon its eight-year legacy as a cafe workhorse with the release of its new 2-cup machine PS2. Designed and developed in Brooklyn, the team of aerospace robotic engineers, designers, and coffee nerds have built a machine that delivers increased precision and control to the art of pour-over coffee. Unlike other commercial pour-over solutions that use a showerhead disbursement for water, Poursteady honors the art and craft of pour-over by mimicking handlike pours from a gooseneck kettle. The new PS2 offers its first ever 2-cup option (which previously has had only 3- and 5-cup options) and widens the pool of potential cafe buyers. The retail cost is approximately 50% of the previous product, broadening the purchase and adoption to both smaller cafes and extensive chains. Its new OLED screens display multiple recipe options and offer a dial to navigate selection. Furthermore, the under-counter, third-party boiler has been replaced with a tankless flow-through water heater that lives within the PS2 itself.
The PS2 solves three main problems. First, it addresses the challenges of inconsistent and time-consuming pour-over coffee brewing by using robotic automation to mimic hand-pouring techniques. This consistently delivers high-quality coffee with minimal training required for baristas. Second, the limited real estate of cafe counters is solved by a reduced machine footprint. This beautiful yet space-saving design makes it a feasible option even for smaller coffee houses. Third, there's less need for service because of the inherent reliability of the on-demand heater. Everything the barista might need to change – timing of pours, volume of each pour, and the precise temperature of each pour – can be set on the OLED display and saved as a recipe. The minimal UI interface allows baristas to focus on what matters, delivering quality pour-over coffee and customer engagement.
Poursteady offers customers the opportunity to elevate their coffee experience while ensuring consistent quality with every cup. The four biggest impacts of the PS2 are: the machine provides consistency and repeatability across cafes and between baristas, it saves on barista training and labor costs, there's a reduced need for precious counter space, and cafes can charge a higher price for a premium cup of coffee. Specifically, the reliability of the machine comes from the new OLED panels that allow baristas to easily switch between recipes on the machine or tailor specific recipes through an app. The ability to create recipes directly on the machine can deliver a specific water temperature as well as time and volume for unparalleled flavor optimization for a specific coffee. Second, less barista time is needed for training since the machine takes care of the quality cup of coffee. This also allows for a more personal in-cafe experience since baristas can engage with customers or multitask without worrying or watching the machine. The integrated boiler means precise temperature control and far less troubleshooting or labor costs to service. Third, the smaller size takes up less valuable counter real estate and doesn't take up any under counter space. These innovations combine to deliver a consistently excellent pour over and cafes can legitimately charge a higher price for it.
As an added benefit, the Poursteady PS2 also offers environmental benefits due to the on demand pour over model. With the new tankless water heater, PS2 will only heat water on demand. This eliminates the energy necessary to maintain hot water in a tank. Additionally, the per cup pour-over model of Poursteady provides substantial waste reduction compared to the batch brew pots that sit and get disposed of in a typical cafe.
The PS2 brings graceful drama to the cafe counter line-up. Its signature robotic arm emulates the pour-over motion in a way that shows not only its precision but elicits the feeling of a high-end barista's human touch (specific pour patterns are programmable). The physically sleek profile and brushed 304 stainless steel means that all attention is in on the art of the coffee making. To match any cafe's aesthetic, the PS2 is also available in black or white and can be powder coated in any color for custom installation. The optional recessed drip tray integrates the machine more seamlessly with the counter and the integrated boiler means no more connections to an undercounter third-party boiler. Functionally, the refined manufacturing approach minimizes visible seams while enabling easier serviceability through removable side panels. The restrained UI on the machine preserves the timeless character of Poursteady with the seamless glass panel. The push dial interface simplifies the coffee recipe selection process while still allowing for more advanced functionality.
