Garmin Approach S62

The Approach S62 is Garmin's premium GPS golf watch that brings players essential on-course data, mapping, and stat tracking. The S62 comes with a variety of golf features to help players of all levels improve and refine their game. The S62 has access to over 41,000 courses worldwide and introduces a new feature called Virtual Caddie which analyzes critical factors such as wind speed, course layout, and shot data from previous rounds to select the best club for each shot. Performance doesn't end at the club house as the S62 is equipped with smartwatch features like wrist-based heart rate monitoring and Pulse Ox data for tracking daily activities, health metrics, smart notifications, and contactless payments. The S62 boasts a 14-day battery life in standard mode and 20 hours in GPS mode, perfect for a multi-round weekend and enough to get you through the week.

The primary focus of the Approach S62's design was to provide golfers with a premium on-course experience while still providing key smartwatch features for life beyond the golf course. Extra attention was given to reduce the weight in the housing design to not impede performance while golfing. The watch body's crisp, flowing transitions and angled cuts speak to the performance and precision you'd recognize in golf clubs. One of the more prominent details of the S62's design is the ceramic bezel that gave us a lightweight and durable scratch-resistant solution with superior surface finishes that rival fine jewelry. The 18-hole bezel indicators correlate to the product's interface to let the user know what hole they're currently playing. Our black and white CMF strategy with orange accents aligned with performance products in the golf market. With Garmin's proprietary quick fit band system users can swap out their watch bands in a matter of seconds to fit their specific performance requirements, style and occasion. A sunlight readable 1.3in color touchscreen provides ample area to view essential course information.

Where the Approach S62 excels is in its precise ability to help strategize and fine tune a golfer's game. Features like PinPointer, shows players the exact direction to the pin when facing a blind shot. The PlaysLike Distance option adjusts yardages to compensate for uphill and downhill shots, and with Hazard View, golfers can quickly scroll through each hole's hazards to acquire critical distance information and know exactly what to avoid during play.

Avid players can gain additional insight into their game by pairing the Approach S62 with the Garmin Golf™ app. Stats are calculated in the app and then sent to the watch so users can review handicap index, fairway and approach shot hit/miss percentage, and green in regulation percentage. Players can also review their previous rounds and see each shot on every hole to evaluate shot patterns in their game.

In parallel to the software development, we refined the physical design to find the right balance of display viewing area in conjunction to the watch size. This required multiple rounds of form factor explorations and fit studies. Using too large of a display would result in a bigger watch potentially making it unusable while golfing. Too small and the user couldn't easily view the essential golf information. Internal and external user feedback was essential in creating a product and experience that resonated with our core users and extended the S62 to new users. Constant collaboration on software features and design details resulted in the S62 being Garmin's most advanced golf wearable to date.

The Garmin Approach S62 represents the latest advances in wearable golf technology. It gives golfers access to essential golf metrics and course information with a style designed specifically for the golf enthusiast.
