Tinge

Tinge is a series of light fixtures that encourage presence and connection in ones space. The user is required to interact with the simple analog interface in order to dim the light.

In our ever digital world its hard to disconnect when every object we touch has an app, bluetooth or some smart camera that observes how you live your life. I like most, can benefit from these convenient technologies but often feel a disconnect from the objects while using them. Lights, doors, speakers, books, heat/AC, even home appliances can all be controlled with the same device you use to tweet and text. I feel there is something gratifying by opening a dishwasher to find out if its done and feeling the steam hit your face indicating clean dishes; Or blowing the dust off of a record and putting it on the player while adjusting the volume to that perfect setting. Tinge was made to serve as a symbol to disconnect and be present.

My desire was to create a beautiful cohesive series of light fixtures to tell a narrative. I selected solid and grounding materials for the series. A milled brass piece became the touching point for each of the lights. This piece is connected to the glass, when you spin the brass it rotates the glass and this is how the light is dimmed.
