Lightweight and battery powered, Contour is hand carried through an environment as it scans to generate a 3D map without additional infrastructure. A typical 10,000 sq m (110,000 sq ft) space can be scanned in about 2.5 hours.
The onboard touchscreen enhances Contour's ease and usability. The screen displays the model as it's being built in real time, allowing the user to improve results during mapping and even control the display to provide immediate knowledge of the environment. Users are able to pause, rewind, and resume during scanning.

Contour directly answers unmet challenges in today's marketplace. Current practices are burdened by multiple products and steps required to collect, process, and finally convert spatial data into an actionable 3D model. Contour merges these discrete tasks into one step, amounting to a simple walk on site with the device in hand. This is made possible by Kaarta Engine, the underlying software which lets the device sense, scan, process, and digitally reproduce its surroundings on the go – an industry first.
As the 3D scanning industry matures, there are a lack of easy to use, approachable products. The primary design goal with the Contour was to develop a self-contained system that could be understood in seconds. With an approachable form and clear direction, the Contour sets the user up for successful scans right out of the box. With a 7" touchscreen, users can verify the scan, add to it, or gather more info from hard to see areas. The team worked through multiple styles of holding and carrying the device. By lowering the height of the device, it promotes better scanning habits allowing the user to blanket a room in LIDAR easily. Onscreen menus are large and allow exploration of the current data right on the device. By blurring the verification stage directly into the scanning operation, Contour saves a massive amount of time and increasing the confidence of a great scan.
