Yield - Worm Composting Bin

The Yield in-ground compost bin solves traditional composting problems by providing an expandable in-ground solution that is easy to use and minimizes the interaction needed by the user. The Yield composting system resides in-ground, which reduces the amount of space required to compost and utilizes nature's composting machines – worms, to rapidly break down organic material & add beneficial microorganisms to the soil.

Yield provides an easy to implement solution for personal composting, that if highly adopted, could reduce global greenhouse gas production

When organic material breaks down, it fertilizes surrounding vegetables and flowers without anyone having to intervene in the process. Yield's above ground vessel is a stackable and modular bin which allows you to scale your system as needed.

Overview

Organic landfill waste adds to our global greenhouse gas problem as well as underutilizes material that should be recycled into a valuable product. Composting this waste creates a product that improves soil, can grow the next generation of crops, and improves water quality. Composting provides a significant cost savings over conventional soil remediation technologies. Traditional composting systems require maintenance and space, and the process usually not set up where it is needed most-In the garden.

Traditional compost bins or worm bins take up a lot of room and require a lot of user interaction- watering the pile, turning the pile, or manually separating the composting worms from the finished product. Yield's in-ground composting system reduces the space needed to compost, accelerates the process of composting, and allows you to compost where needed most-in your garden.

About Yield

Yield solves traditional composting problems by providing an expandable in-ground solution that is easy to use and minimizes the interaction needed by the user. The Yield composting system resides in-ground, which reduces the amount of space required to compost, and utilizes nature's composting machines – worms- to rapidly break down organic material & add beneficial microorganisms to the soil. When organic material breaks down, it fertilizes surrounding vegetables and flowers without anyone having to intervene in the process. Yield's above ground vessel is a stackable and modular bin which allows you to scale your system as needed.

Yield System Components

The Yield system consists of 3 parts:

1-Molded plastic base with perforated hole pattern

2-Stackable interlocking top bin with a perforated hole pattern on the bottom surface

3-Molded plastic lid that seals and encloses the system

The in-ground base vessel is a core component for the system to work as intended.

The top stackable bin is optional and allows for a larger amount of kitchen waste.

If Yield is used as intended, it can reduce the amount of landfill waste, which in turn reduces the amount of greenhouse gas emissions.

4-How it Works

1) Position the base of the compost bin in your garden bed and install in the soil to the ground level line, leaving the top flared section exposed

2) Place a bedding of pre-moistened strips of newspaper in the base

3) Add 1-2 cups of compost

4) Add composting (Tiger) worms (approximately 8-12 worms)

5) Add a handful of food scraps and allow them to settle for 2-3 days

6) When the base of the compost bin is filled, place the top bin on the interface points on the lower bin, and repeat steps 2-5
