Aluminum Gel Hand Wash

Introducing Aluminum Gel Hand Wash, a collection of timelessly tasteful hand washes designed to flatter your fixtures for years to come. Inspired by sleek home fixtures + mesmerizing metallics, our aluminum bottles are designed to be refilled and reused as long as you like and recycled when you're ready. A set of four premium fragrances, with accompanying refills helps to minimize waste and elevate the everyday.

Method has a legacy of creating chic, sustainable soap products that people love. We've spent the last two decades leveraging design to create adoption of products that are better for you and better for the planet. The truth is, the soap industry is actually quite dirty. It's built upon a culture of convenience and single-use plastics, of which only 9% of plastic bottles are recycled and repurposed into a new product. We believe the future is circular and design plays a critical role, acting as a tipping point for more sustainable behavior.

Our aluminum gel hand wash is our first step in that direction. With this launch, we're ushering in a new era of sustainable design at method. We're in the process of building a platform of refillable + reusable home essentials and prioritizing refill innovation across our entire business. Our goal is to put sustainable design and circular behavior within reach of every method consumer.

Our innovation process always begins with the human. We set out to better understand how consumer's behaviors + attitudes towards products are evolving and how we might accelerate a shift towards refillables and incentivize reuse. How might we create a soap delivery system that is so desirable, that consumers adopt a refill mentality?

As our research suggested, a new material was a critical piece of the puzzle. We evaluated a variety of different materials against safety, durability, ship-ability, recyclability, printability and consumer appeal. Ultimately, we were looking for a lightweight material with high consumer appeal and a way to responsibly repurpose the material at the end of its lifecycle. Aluminum seemed to unlock many of those challenges. More importantly, aluminum is infinitely recyclable and 75% of all aluminum is still in circulation. Not only is curbside aluminum recycling widely available, but aluminum has a much higher chance of being recycled and repurposed into new products.

Introducing method's new aluminum gel hand wash, designed to be timelessly tasteful and radically resilient. Our bottles are built to refill + reuse as long as you like and are recyclable when ready.

Aluminum (new to the method portfolio) enabled us to evolve and refine our visual design language to be more elevated, modern and bold. We deliberately chose not to 'paint' the bottle to hide the innate qualities of such a beautiful material, so we selected finishes to complement home faucets and fixtures.

When it comes to decoration, we've eliminated the need for a plastic label by silk-screening the graphics directly on the bottle. This new printable aluminum bottle will not only help us eliminate plastic bottles but help us eliminate landfill-bound shrink wrap while offering superior decoration possibilities, more flexibility, more color and differentiated finishing techniques.

Our approach to product development goes beyond the bottle and is smart inside and out. All of method's formulas are cruelty-free and biodegradable. Additionally, with this launch we've partnered with the Givaudan foundation to support their Sourcing for Shared Value Program. This program embeds social and environmental goodness into the locations they source ingredients from by helping to preserve the environment, stimulate the well-being of communities and safeguard resources for the long term.
