Wind | DKNY x NEW INC

Karolina's project for the DKNY SoHo store reflects the sights and sounds of the New York City subway. A subway bench is centered in the window with curtains directly behind. A sensor tracks the movement of patrons passing on the street. When recognized, a video of a NYC subway approaching the platform plays and fans are activated. The curtains billow to reveal DKNY mannequins. Inside the store, visitors can hear a patchwork of stories heard over time inside the New York subway - some are recurring characters, some are unique. They form an excerpt of this multifaceted city, giving a little insight into the lives of real New Yorkers who ride every day from far away to get to their daily lives.

DKNY and NEW INC shared a unique collaboration between DKNY Creative Director's Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne and four women artists who are members of NEW INC, the New Museum's incubator for art, design, and technology.
These NEW INC artists have been commissioned for a series of window installations centered around the iconic New York subway bench. The dynamic works of art range from the poetic to the performative and were on view from June through December 2016.
"We are excited to be working with NEW INC artists in such a tangible way - providing both a platform and support for women artists who are exploring new hybrid practices that involve art, design, and technology." - Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne
The second installment of this series was created by Karolina Ziulkoski, a new media artist from Porto Alegre, Brazil.
