Nepal Fair Trade Project

Assistant Professor Ann-Marie Conrado, University of Notre Dame

The project brings Notre Dame undergraduate art and design students to Nepal to work with fair trade handicraft artisans to design and develop lifestyle home goods more attractive to consumers in developed economies. Students spend ten weeks in the country collaborating with artisans of the Association for Craft Producers (a non profit umbrella organization) to create a wide variety of prototypes in skills areas including weaving, felting, coppersmithing, ceramics, textiles, silkscreening and blockprinting. Ongoing since 2007, students have developed over three hundred prototypes which have resulted in over $100,000 in sales for ACP.
