4moms™ high chair

The new 4moms high chair brings innovation to a sleepy category with a sleek, functional design that addresses consumer pain points through the use of magnets. The 4moms high chair uses magnets both in the tray latches and on the tray top to make mealtime easier for parents. Parents can easily attach the tray with one hand by placing the tray over the chair and letting the magnets guide and lock it into place. Magnets in the tray top help keep 4moms bowls and plates in place – minimizing the mess at mealtime.

Traditional high chair trays are tricky – parents have to line up the rails and coordinate the latches to attach them. 4moms believed that high chairs would be better if the tray was simple to use. That's why it created the 4moms TM high chair using the magic of magnets.

Magnetic latches make it easy to attach the tray. Just hover the tray close to the seat and the magnetic latches magically lock and attach the tray into place, unlike traditional high chair trays that require two hands to attach. The tray surface is also magnetic, which holds 4moms plates and bowls in place – making mealtime less stressful.

The 4moms team did extensive research with parents to identify unmet consumer needs. The team was surprised to learn that, among the parents they talked to, virtually none would recommend their high chair to a friend. This finding galvanized the team around the the opportunity to deliver meaningful innovation. An easy-to-use tray attachment was identified as the biggest unmet need. Parents shared that mealtime was already stressful and existing high chairs amplified that stress when it was difficult to attach the tray while managing a squirmy, hungry child and a tray full of food.

The 4moms design and engineering teams worked together to ideate around ways to simplify tray attachment. This ideation resulted in the selection of magnets as the focus for the design. The team became experts on magnets throughout the development process, creating dozens of prototypes to hone in on the perfect size, strength and placement for the magnets in both the tray latches and tray top where the magnets were located in a grid pattern to accommodate where plates and bowls would typically be used.

The 4moms high chair also features a removable, foam seat insert that's incredibly easy to clean. Unlike the difficult-to-clean fabric lining of traditional high chairs, the insert design eliminates cracks and crevices so parents can easily wipe the seat down.

The chair's intuitive functionality meets a handsome aesthetic, available in three color combinations designed to complement the contemporary kitchen. Its dynamic profile, sculptured form, and taunt crease lines define the high chair's composition, which works together with considerate detailing and sophisticated material finishes to create one cohesive design. The combination of functionality and aesthetics makes for a high chair unlike any other.

Jury Commentary
Impressed with clean design and new ideas for practicality in a sector where there is not much innovation. Particularly impressed with the magnetic clip-on trays.
